Miva Merchant Moves From License Model to SaaS Model

Miva Merchant recently announced it’s plans to move from a License model to a SaaS (Software as Service) model beginning in May.

As a webhost we can appreciate the fact that the Miva Merchant shopping cart software now promises to offer all of its future software improvements, upgrades etc as part of its per month fee, but I must condemn the act of doing so without regard to those licenses already sold as a perpetual one-time cost.

Blue Bayou has chosen to not pass along the cost of these monthly fees for it’s existing Private E-Commerce clients, however by default all new accounts after May 1st, 2009 will only be offered as SAS packages.

    Is this for Miva 5.5, or just the legacy 4.x platform?

    As I understand it’s everything, including 4.x. Your options were to use it until it breaks, or to upgrade.

    This from Miva Merchant President Russ Caroll;

    “Therefore, we are changing all hosting contracts as of May 1, 2009 from a licensing model to a software-as-a-service model. You will be required to pay a software SaaS fee for each version 4 or 5 store license that you have active in any given month.”

    and lastly, this;

    “The third option, and the one we have chosen, is to continue to support 4 stores with critical bug fixes and patches, and to undertake PA-DSS certification of 4 so that it would be certified in the future.”

  • Mark S.

    We moved to 5.x awhile back, glad we did but I’m not happy about any increase in monthly costs.
