Oracle Q2 Net Income Rises 28 Percent

Oracle’s net income for the quarter that ended November 30th jumped 28 percent to US$1.9 billion compared with the same period last year. The increase can easily be attributed to it’s software license sales.

Privacy Groups Pan Policy Paper From Dept of Commerce

Some privacy groups roundly criticize a new policy paper from the U.S. Department of Commerce because it falls short of what’s needed to protect Internet users.

The Commerce Department paper recommends moving towards an online privacy bill of rights and code of conduct for Internet companies, with enforcement to be brought by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

Several privacy groups have questioned whether the code of conduct would be effective because of the recommendation by the Dept of Commerce that affected companies help write the new regulations.

According to the FBI four executives at publicly traded technology companies have been arrested on charges that they sold inside information about their employers.

That this activity happened is not a surprise, that they were actually charged with the offense is. Hundreds of thousands of employees routinely disseminate confidential employers only information, some unknowingly or unwittingly, however few do it for profit or personal gain.

U.S. Gov’t Worker Pleads Guilty to Accessing Student Files

Database Administrators Prepare to Move to the Cloud

Recent data suggests that companies database admins are set to move their databases into the cloud over the next couple of years.

Personally I see the advantages but as with any system, backups need to occur. Any company that relies strictly on a cloud based system risks loosing incalculable amounts of data and putting it’s security into an unknown.
