Selecting an SEO Firm

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

If you like many business owners are considering outsourcing an SEO firm or professional to assist with your companies website optimization goals, you are probably wary of dropping what may well be over a thousand dollars or more, without knowing exactly what you’re going to get for your money. Who can blame you, money’s hard earned and even more so with a tough economy.

How did you hear about the agency or individual? Did they call you up unsolicited on the phone with a line about ‘not finding you on Google’, and how they could get you on the first page of Google? Forget it, hang up immediately, seriously don’t even engage them! These are phone rooms working on sales volume, many provide shoddy or down right unethical services or, don’t do anything and just run quickly with your credit card number.

Besides, no one can guarantee you first page placement on Google or Yahoo for anything but nonsensical words or terms that are hardly, if ever searched.

A face to face meeting with your potential SEO professional is best because you should expect to get a clear, direct non-geek speak answer to every question that you have, no matter how small. Search engines, including Google and Yahoo may ban your website for any blackhat SEO tactics, after all you hired the agency.

You MUST know exactly what the web firm you select is going to do to optimize your website or your marketing efforts may be for naught.

Miva Merchant Moves From License Model to SaaS Model

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Miva Merchant recently announced it’s plans to move from a License model to a SaaS (Software as Service) model beginning in May.

As a webhost we can appreciate the fact that the Miva Merchant shopping cart software now promises to offer all of its future software improvements, upgrades etc as part of its per month fee, but I must condemn the act of doing so without regard to those licenses already sold as a perpetual one-time cost.

Blue Bayou has chosen to not pass along the cost of these monthly fees for it’s existing Private E-Commerce clients, however by default all new accounts after May 1st, 2009 will only be offered as SAS packages.

Blue Bayou Offers Extended Validatation Certificates with Support for Latest SSL Product

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Salt Lake City, Utah (April 7th, 2009) – Blue Bayou, announced today that new Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates are available for sale and ready to install. An SSL Certificate is a digital credential that authenticates the identity of a Web site and encrypts information via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.

Created to establish online business identities, enable secure connections and promote online consumer confidence, EV SSLs set a higher standard for secure and successful online businesses. Like Turbo SSL® and High Assurance SSLs offered by Blue Bayou, the newer EV SSL offers industry-leading 256-bit encryption technology. A process vetted with millions of hours of data checksum. A thorough, standardized verification process affords EV SSL certificate owners an opportunity to tout completion of the most stringent vetting process for SSL encryption available today. This may even result in lower user fees for credit card gateways in the future.

The EV SSL vetting process involves verifying the applying organization’s identity and typically requires a letter from a representing attorney or accountant. While the new guidelines are strict, Blue Bayou EV SSL certificates can be issued within two to four hours after all required documentation is received, usually much faster during normal business hours.

When users access sites encrypted with EV SSLs using Internet Explorer® 7, the first browser to distinguish EV certificates, the site’s secure status is immediately evident. The browser’s address bar reflects a green background and the name of the organization to which the certificate was issued, along with the familiar https:// prefix and padlock icon. Other browsers currently handle EV SSLs like normal certificates and are expected to distinguish them soon.

“Keeping up with changing standards in SSL technology assures your customers that you value their security as much as they do” Say’s Nick West of Blue Bayou, Llc.
